Having a loved one in jail is never easy. Fortunately, the Hamilton County Justice Center does allow visitation. However, visitation systems have undergone significant changes in recent years, resulting in more complex procedures. Discover what you need to know to successfully navigate inmate visitation in Hamilton County, OH.
How To Obtain Visitation Information
To get critical information about someone in custody, you can use the inmate search feature on the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office website.
Simply search for and click on the inmate’s name to be presented with their personal information, including:
- Date of birth
- Unique identification number
- Housing location
- Case numbers
- Securus ID
You will need this information to set up an account with Securus, the technology Hamilton County uses to schedule and conduct video visits.
Hamilton County Jail Visitation Procedures
Like many jails around the country, Hamilton County Jail partners with a video communications company to facilitate visits between inmates and families. Whether someone is facing theft charges or something more serious, all visits to the Hamilton County Justice Center are conducted via video.
If you’re coming in person, you must set up a Securus account and schedule your visit 24 hours in advance. Onsite visits are free, but face-to-face visits are not allowed. You will conduct your visit using a video terminal located in the lobby of the North Building.
Remote visits are also allowed if you are unable to visit the jail site or don’t wish to come in person. You must still pre-schedule, and all remote visits are subject to a fee of $5.99 plus taxes and fees, which must be paid upon scheduling.
The video technology used by the Hamilton County Jail does include a mobile app, so visits can be conducted on a desktop, laptop, or mobile device. If you don’t wish to use the app, you can conduct your visit using the Securus website.
Visitation Rules You Need To Know
Both remote and onsite visitors must adhere to the following policies:
- Onsite visits are limited to four people, one of which must be an adult
- All jail visitors are subject to etiquette and attire rules, including clothing type and headgear restrictions and limitations on mobile device usage
- Inmates are limited to one onsite visit per week, with no onsite visits on holidays
- Onsite visits to the Hamilton County Justice Center are allowed Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
- Onsite visits to the Reading Road jail location are allowed Monday through Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- All inmates are allowed no more than three remote visits per day
- All visits are limited to 20 minutes each
- Remote visits to those in the Hamilton County Justice Center take place Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:40 p.m. and Sunday starting at 11:00 a.m.
- Reading Road remote visits are Monday through Friday starting at 5:30 p.m., Saturday at 9:00 a.m., and Sunday at 11:00 a.m. Remote visits end at 8:40 p.m.
Failure to follow policies may result in the denial or cancellation of the visit. Also, note that these policies and procedures do not apply to juveniles, as they are housed in a different facility with different visitation rules.
